Jubilee Novena in St Mungo’s

2019 is a special 150th anniversary year in three houses of our Province. In 1869 the Passionists went to Belfast to open a new community at Ardoyne, dedicated to the Holy Cross. In the same year, the recently founded St Joseph’s community in Paris moved to a new house and church on Avenue Hoche. 12 September 1869 saw the opening of St Mungo’s Church in Townhead, Glasgow, where the Passionists had arrived in 1865.

To mark the 150th anniversary of the opening of St Mungo’s Church, the annual Novena in honour of Our lady of Sorrows has a special Jubilee flavour this year. The Novena is being given by Fathers Aidan Troy (St Joseph’s, Paris), Paul Francis Spencer (St Paul’s, Mount Argus) and James Sweeney (Provincial). The Novena runs from 7 to 15 September with two sessions each day. The Closing Mass for the Novena will be celebrated by Archbishop Philip Tartaglia on Sunday, 15 September which is the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows.
